The WFTDA is now running a test season to determine if there is interest in a WFTDA Open Division in which people of any gender may participate in WFTDA-sanctioned play. This test program is open to all teams, regardless of affiliation, and does not require a WFTDA membership to participate.

The test period will run from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. During the test season, teams register with the WFTDA to participate and there is no fee. This program is not connected to the WFTDA main division competition, so WFTDA leagues and teams do not need to meet that division’s charter crossover requirements.

Teams may sanction any number of games for the test as long as the 30-day deadline to submit a game is met. Charter rosters must be submitted with every game application, and will be submitted in the sanctioning form itself. For games in the United States, all teams and skaters must hold appropriate insurance in order to participate. All teams must agree to abide by the WFTDA Code of Conduct and game policies for the Open Division. WFTDA expects that leagues do not force members of marginalized genders to participate on their Open Division team, and has provided guidance in the program documents to support teams in managing their rosters appropriately.

If Open Division games are played as a part of WFTDA-sanctioned tournaments, those games should be submitted using the Open Division process and not included in the tournament application.

WFTDA asks teams to submit completed statsbooks after the game is played, and will communicate with teams via surveys and emails to get feedback on the program.

Teams interested in participating should sign up using the WFTDA Open Division Registration Form.

Teams should review and follow these Open Division policies:
